iPhones first 3d party voice messaging application |

Today is a great day. The iPhone has now a very cool addition in it's growing library of (so far non approved) 3d party applications. Since a few weeks our partner company nikotel (www.nikotel.com) which was one of the first true voice over IP companies is running a beta test of a new service which will start very soon. This new service will be a revolutionary new way of instant messaging. It includes text, audio, video, collaboration and more. A few weeks ago we started looking into a new deployment platform, the highly elegant new iPhone. We strongly hope believe that Apple soon will release a first "real" SDK for it to open this beautiful platform to thousands of eager waiting developers. Time will tell. What we did was porting one of the several new services in nikotels new service to the iPhone. The voice chat. How often do you just want to tell someone something without trying to reach them ...

Breakthrough GEO IP VoIP routing |
|

Today we rolled out the first implementation of GEO IP routing in a live customer network. As part of the REMWAVE Enterprise ITSP solution, GEO IP routing was the next logical step of our “liquid backbone” strategy where an arbitrary amount of PSTN switches and connections to other carriers shows as one unit.
In the past you had to manually decide of where you would like to route your customer’s traffic based on the customer physical address and/or country he signed up from. You also could give your customers a particular SIP proxy address to use and then routing all resulting PSTN traffic over a particular gateway. This is a problem every global VoIP company has to deal with (and who isn’t global today). In 99% of all cases this will result in customer complaints down the road about quality issues due to long hauling traffic over the internet or i ...

REMWAVE’s VoIP solutions scale to millions of concurrent users |

During the installation of the REMWAVE ITSP solution the installer displays an info box, recommending the user to contact REMWAVE if the test environment will be tested with more than 5,000 users. I received the question of why we would ask the user to contact REMWAVE?
The REMWAVE evaluation solution we offer for download is somewhat optimized to be installed on a single Windows 2003 server. All components are configured in a way to use the least amount of resources as possible. The SIP proxy starts in a special mode and the Oracle Express DB uses a small footprint and so on. This setup should be fine for a couple thousand registered users. The moment you want to scale it is when REMWAVE outshines the competition. It scales horizontally and vertically perfectly. For those of you who "like to play it safe" there is no single point of failure, add ...

After a couple month of intense development and a lot of valuable customer feedback I am happy to announce that the newest ITSP turnkey solution (for Windows) is available for immediate download. It has dozens of new features and improvements. I will write more about it in a while but most important was to get the great news out. It is really awesome: Installing a complete “Voice over IP Company” within hours rather than weeks or months of dealing with components. Existing customers will receive updates automatically and our engineering probably has contacted you by now to schedule appointments to apply patches, updates and new feature packs. The new version contains:
Calamar SIP Proxy (Version 2007.7)
TerraPBX Gateway Edition

The global first (and only) VoIP service API |

Imagine you would like to build a Voice over IP company. Something like Vonage or Jajah for example. You can go and rent leased lines, buy phone switches, VoIP infrastructure and then start your business. In the past you were also able to go to nikotel (www.nikotel.com) and become a white label partner and build your platorm on top of nikotels network(which is now based on REMWAVE technology) . This concept just made a huge leap forward. After intense testing we are proud to introduce the Nikotel Service Interface, or short NSI. NSI is basically a Voice over IP API which gives you complete billing, call logic, access to value added voice services, call termination into the fixed network as well as free PC to PC calls to over 1 million people being connected to our peering network. From simple webbased calling services to sophisticated hosted enterprise collaboration everything we can think of can be build on top of nikotels NSI platform. The ...

REMWAVE delivers on Windows, Linux and Solaris - the most versatile VoIP solution |

It is great to see our solution being installed on the three major platforms. Choice is good for customers and there are many reasons for one or the other solution in different situations. Sometimes the solution can be a mix out of these platforms. Tonight we will take a customer system life which is deployed to Solaris and Windows. The components talk to each other over SIP, Webservices and JDBC - IT harmony;-)
What else is new?
Within the next few weeks we will start to release system components to integrate easier into existing networks. We have identified many areas where VoIP companies have challenges. Scalable voice mail systems for example or real time billing components with multiple simultaneous calls from the same user account. There are many challenges requiring years of experience and lot of engineering to be conquered. These challenges is where REMWAVE can excel, delivering ready to go solutions. Stay tuned.

Let the SUN shine on REMWAVE - Solaris zones for VoIP |

Today we finished a very interesting project. Integration of our premier enterprise platform into a carrier network on a new supported platform. We got the chance to deploy to a very smart platform indeed: Solaris zones.
Solaris zones are a technology somewhere between BSD jails and virtualization like XEN or Vmware (even there are huge differences again but I won’t go into detail). Have you ever wanted to set up a nice powerful server, put a highly advanced operating system on it and then split it into little machines literally in minutes so different teams can install components without getting into each other’s way? Well – welcome to zones. After installation we made a backup schema for most components based on snapshots and then mirrored the system. It was a pure pleasure. In the future the customer can simply keep the host machines updated and the zones which inherit most of the files from its host system will be automatica ...

Video and collaboration proxy for Linux |

There was some confusion over how to use the REMWAVE light phone for video conferencing and screen sharing. One has to use the complete REMWAVE setup or a public video server like nikotels. Since today we offer a complete Linux video and collaboration proxy for download. In order to test the phone you need:
Asterisk or SIP enabled PBX like sipx or SER with other gateways (SIP!!! Not IAX - not yet;-))
REMWAVEs video and collaboration proxy
XMPP server like wildfire, jabberd or a public one like nikotels
